The Silence of Landscape

Porcelain, 2024, 85” x 80” x 12”, 218cm x 203 cm x 30cm installation

The Silence of Landscape is a calming moment to reflect on what we are doing to our environment, including the resources of land. Land is silent and cannot speak nor defend against its exploitation. These rolling hills echo utilizing repetition of a far-reaching landscape. Each mountain is encrusted with sharp grass like forms implying a natural protective shield. As topiary forms they are defined and controlled by the human hand rather than occurring naturally in a living landscape. The patterns are sourced from my research on the Guilin Mountains in China, a remote area yet unspoiled.
